Abundance: A Word with "More than Enough" Definitions

If you look up the word "abundant," you'll probably be amazed at the wide-ranging definitions associated with such a word.

While many of us have a preconceived notion about what it means to others, to enhance our understanding of the concept as a whole, we really should take the time to consider the many variations that exist.

Scale is an important factor when it comes to "properly" defining the law of abundance. From the molecular definition pertaining to "the number of atoms of a specific isotope of an element" to the broader "ratio of the total mass of an element in the earths' crust," we begin to witness the far-reaching scope of infinite abundance. Nevertheless, such definitions are unlikely to be the first ones that come to mind when you hear this "abundant" word.

For many people, this prosperous word is directly associated with one's fiscal condition or total financial worth. Sadly, that's the point where many people conclude their search for simple abundance, both literally and figuratively. It's as if the overall level of success and satisfaction with their life is based on such a monetary abundance & prosperity.

By contemplating simple abundance from the viewpoint of other languages and cultures, we can gain additional valuable insight. From a Latin derivation of the words "ab" and "unda," which respectively mean "from waves," the word has a nautical meaning of "plenty of waves or water." Along the same aquatic context, the Islamic Qur'an uses the word "al-Kawthar" only one time; supposedly, the word has a root meaning of "abundance" and refers specifically to the name of a river in Paradise.

For some people, this word has a spiritual basis. A cultural example of this would be the Lurianic Kabbalah (a "modern form of Jewish mysticism") reference the word to "the Light which the Emanator (God) bestows upon the vessels (i.e. His creatures)."

Such definitions might sound irrelevant at first, but allow yourself to delve deeper for just a moment longer. Many would agree with the correlation of the law of abundant living coming in waves throughout their lifetime; others would admit to associating infinite abundance with having reached a certain Paradise. Some people would acknowledge both the "sense of lightness" that it brings to their life, as well as the "light" that they feel they radiate when abundant. The definitions actually seem closer to the mark than first glance allows us to see.

Regardless, or perhaps because of these various definitions, the commonly accepted use of the word to denote the presence of "more than enough" seems more than appropriate. Whether you choose to rate the level of simple abundance in your life as it pertains to your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, or financial state, is simply your personal choice.

We merely present these links to serve as a guide to assist you in "acquiring" this form of prosperity in its many forms. We sincerely wish you an abundant life in every positive sense of the word.
