Alternative Living: Diversity at Its Finest

Images of hippie communes coming to mind? Try again. Expand your definition of alternate. Think alternative health, energy, religion, art and music. That's it. You're getting the idea. But don't stop there.

Alternative has come to mean so many different things to so many different people. Cutting edge? Maybe. Life-enhancing? Probably. Providing new pathways to old needs and desires? Definitely.

What are your needs and desires? Are you in need of an non traditional type of medical treatment like energy balancing, flower essences, or craniosacral therapy? Do you desire to start a business that is not mainstream, say life coaching, organic clothing manufacturing, or feng shui counseling?

Maybe your idea has to do more with a sense of community and less as an individual. No - not the communes like those found in the seventies again. Well, maybe. Something more along the lines of eco-communities who are off the grid, assisted living homes, or spiritual communities. They're all valuable concepts that fit into this category.

Speaking of spirituality….maybe this lifestyle involves a deep connection to what some might consider a "fringe" religion like Confucianism, Paganism, or Vedism. Sometimes it can be hard to locate resources for this type of lifestyle; resources like religious books, spiritual meeting centers, and vacation retreats that are associated with your choice of religion.

Some might even say that lifestyle choices are a big factor in today's family dynamics. The structure of the "typical" family has changed from mom, dad, and 2.4 children to numerous interesting combinations.

Whether you're searching for distributors of healing crystals, educational institutions for becoming a licensed massage therapist, event listings for the local organic produce markets, manufactures of incense, reviews for the latest new style of music CD releases, suppliers of composting toilets, support groups for children of gay and lesbian couples, or ways to share ideas about raising children in an eco-community, you can probably find just what you're looking for here on the internet.

If you consider yourself to have an affiliation with an alternate lifestyle, share your ideas, your services, and/or your products with those of us on the quest for other than mainstream information. Let's learn from one another and keep adding to the diversity.
