Art: Something for Everyone
Some people hear the mention of the word art and they immediately feel as if they no longer have anything to contribute to the conversation. For these individuals, artistic creativity is something "above and beyond" them; either something they "don't get" or something that they tell themselves they have no need for in their life.
Not only does everyone need to express their inner artist, but also there's an artful medium for everyone. We're not just talking about Leonardo da Vinci paintings and Tiffany art glass. Nor are we limiting our discussion to the likes of abstract art or art galleries to visit while you're on vacation. We're referring to all forms of artistic expression including the performing arts, artwork for the visually impaired, and the creative works that you proudly hang on your refrigerator door when your child brings it home from school. See - you really do need the arts after all!
Are you secretly yearning to take a class in or attend art school? Are you longing to learn the fine art of pottery making? Do you want to know how to knit? Are you interested in indulging your desire to take a beginner's course in photography or take a digital photo collage art class? The options are almost limitless. Choose one or choose several, but at least choose.
Don't let anyone tell you that creative expression is simply a class you took in school that always left you feeling less-than-adequate. Don't just pack up your children's crayons when they leave them laying around; color outside of the lines and create a masterpiece that's been waiting to be born since you last dared to show your artistic side to the rest of the world.
If the thought of being creative still sends fear deep into your soul, share in other people's creations. Buy some wearable art and make an artistic fashion statement - perhaps a bejeweled-belt or a hand-woven sweater of kaleidoscope colors. Maybe a funky pair of flip-flops featuring fabric flowers. Be daring and express your artsy-style with a little help from the artists who make such marvelous artistic statements.
Whatever you do, allow a little art into your life. Stop telling yourself it's something you see and not something you do. Do artwork and let artwork do something for you.
