Home > New Age & Personal Growth Articles Wearing our Hearts on our Sleeve with Breast Cancer Awareness WristbandsAccording to information found on the home page of The National Breast Cancer Foundation's web site, in the United States alone this year, more than 211,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,300 will die. During the same year, an additional 1,600 men will be diagnosed and 400 will die. The good news is, if detected early, the five-year survival rate is in excess of 95%. Early detection is therefore one of the main focuses of almost every breast cancer awareness organization, foundation, society, and community group. Such groups provide critical information pertaining to breast cancer facts including prevention, symptoms, and treatment options, as well as support group information. One of the most popular products on the market today that are aiding in increasing breast cancer awareness is breast cancer live strong wristbands. Maybe you've heard people mention breast cancer live strong wristbands, but you didn't know just what they were talking about. The original LiveStrong Wristband was created by cancer-survivor Lance Armstrong, the famous cyclist and multi-winner of the Tour de France. The yellow "jelly-style" LiveStrong wristband not only symbolizes the color of the shirt worn by the winner of the Tour de France, but according to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, it also is "the color of hope, courage, inspiration, and perseverance." To date, more than 47 million LiveStrong wristbands have been sold. Breast cancer live strong wristbands come in a variety of colors and styles. From the traditional pink color associated with breast cancer to a cheerful rainbow breast cancer band, the options are many. Perhaps you'd prefer to wear a lavender band that symbolizes general cancer awareness; maybe you want to wear a teal wristband in honor of a friend who is battling ovarian cancer. Some breast cancer awareness wristbands even feature embossed or debossed ribbons (yet another commonly recognized symbol associated with this disease), hearts, and/or religious crosses. The wristbands make more than just a fashion statement. The varieties of written statements that are embossed or debossed on them include, but are not limited to, the following:
Often referred to as rubber jelly wristbands, awareness bands are made out of silicone, rubber, and/or plastic; most come with snap closures or are seamless and can simply be stretched and slipped on over your hand. There are even sporty pink terry cloth wristbands with embroidered ribbons. You can buy just one breast cancer wristband, purchase sets to share with family and friends, or order in bulk to use for your fundraising event. You can even customize your own wristbands. Many retailers donate a share of the profits from their wristband sales to research and educational organizations. Whether you rely on The American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade/Foundation, or your local breast cancer awareness group for obtaining current statistics, research findings, and additional facts, you can show your universal support of promoting breast cancer awareness, education, and research by wearing your breast cancer live strong wristband. Don't just show you care during the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October; wear your heart on your sleeve all year long by wearing your breast cancer live strong wristbands every day of the year. A rainbow breast cancer band truly looks good with every outfit.
