Aphrodite: Greek Goddess of Love

One of the best known Goddesses is Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love. When looking through a list of famous Greek Gods and Goddesses, this beauty stands out amongst them.

She was eternally young with the most beautiful body. It is known that she wore a magical girdle that had powers to compel great love. She was also known for her sexual attractiveness which lured lustful lovers to her. She was said to rise from the waves of the sea as she enchanted those she encountered.

Aphrodite is just one of the many know female mythical beings worshipped through the ages. The whole concept of honoring the feminine has created a new term. Did you know the word, "Goddessing" is a recent (unattributed) contribution to the Goddess vocabulary? When we refer to Goddessing we are embracing the culture, way of life, and practice of the Goddess.

One of the most influential of priestesses who is most recognized in the Goddess movement has been Starhawk. She authored an international best seller in the late 70's called "The Spiral Dance." Her influence sparked the growth of Goddess spirituality and her book still is one of the best known classic writings on modern paganism.

Although Aphrodite still stands as one of the most enchanting mythical beauties, a living priestess such as Starhawk has done much to keep the feminine spiritual movement very much alive in the new millennium.
