The Magickal History of Hermeticism

If you're interested in various aspects of the occult, from studying the purposes of spells and magick's influence on the creation of witchcraft symbols, the concept of hermetics might be familiar to you. However, for those who are new to the idea of hermetics, if you were to look the up word in the dictionary, oftentimes the only definition that you'll be given is "airtight," as in "hermetically" sealed…no kidding!

While those who have studied Hermetics might vouch for what they consider the "airtight" teachings of such an age-old practice, the differences between Hermeticism and Hermetism can complicate the matter. In the simplest of terms, Hermeticism, which focuses on the use of spells and magick with a sprinkle of astrology thrown into the mix, is considered the offspring of Hermetism, a "Greco-Egyptian pagan mystical sect."

The history associated with both Hermetism and Hermeticism is rich indeed. With a little research you can learn about the connections that Hermeticism's unique philosophy shares with such other interesting topics as the Kabbalah and both spiritual and chemical alchemy. You'll also learn of the impact these fields of study have had on modern-day magick and how Wiccan ceremonial practices are often based on what is known as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

Anyone involved in magick truly should take the time to investigate and understand the roots of their witchcraft. Such knowledge will potentially go a long way towards enhancing the potency of your spells. Spend some time learning about a practice that has proven over and over again its capability to survive the tests of time.
