Kauai, Hawaii: Beauty, Beaches, and Luxury Retreats
The Garden Island, know as Kauai is one of the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands.
It is known for its incredible beauty, the friendliness of its people, and its tropical luxury retreats.
Kauai is over five million years old. Through time the volcanic mass has eroded and created some of the most amazing geological formations. The Spectacular Waimea Canyon is over 2500 feet deep in places and is Hawaii's largest erosional valley with many waterfalls with over 2000 foot drops. The Napali Cliffs are noted as some of the most scenic and picturesque in the world.
Nearly 50% of Kauai's 111 miles of coastline are lined with beautiful beaches, derived mainly from wave erosion of reef producing coral and algae. This is a beach lovers paradise. For hikers and nature loves, there are hundreds of trails that weave through the lush erosional valleys. Many trails also hug the coastal features such as fringing coral/algal reefs and the golden sandy beaches.
With a population of around 60,000 people, Kauai is very community oriented. Although the island does not have a robust night life, it is rich in culture and the arts, and attracts those interested in health and wellness. There is always something to do, wheather it is taking a yoga class on the beach, or making pottery at a local studio, or learning to make leis and weave baskets from the local flora and fauna.
If you want to relax, do a little healing, connect with nature, and enjoy the arts Kauai is the place to visit. You never know what celebrity may be staying at one of the hide-away tropical luxury retreats.
