Link Popularity: The Ins and Outs of Creating Links
Links and link swapping has become a big topic for those who have web sites. One theory is by asking all your friends who own websites to display links to your website's most interesting spots and, in return displaying links on your web page back to their website can dramatically increate your web sites traffic and visibility. However, this may not be as important as it once was because search enginees are getting smarter, and organically created links are more natural.
There are many ways to aquire links to your website which may increase your web traffic. You can purchase an advertisement on a pay-per-click service and thousands of people will click on the link and visit your website. The questions really is, however, how many of these people will actually STAY on your website long enough to read the information you want them to? Be sure the page they land on has genuine quality content that is worth the visit, or you will spend money without a significant gain.
Of course, Google Adsense and Adwords is another way to get links that will provide traffic to your website. By displaying advertisements on related web sites, traffic can really be increased. However, if your content does not hold the reader and call them to action, again, you may be paying for clicks that don't result in sales or input or whatever the goal of your link.
Be careful about using links to obtain traffic. Reciprocal links can be a wash, meaning they can cancel each other out. Some great ways to obtain quality links is to provide unique content that other webmaster's can publish on their sites while also linking back to your site. Or, you can submit your site to various directories and again create quality one way links. One-way links are truly the best, as well as links that are varied in text keeping the information organic. Rather than having a cookie cutter description of your site thats always the same. Organic links are what makes the search engines very happy!
