A Trip to An Occult Bookstore: Not just Gypsy Fortune Tellers

People have had a fascination with the occult since the beginning of time, when we first looked to the stars at night and wondered why we were here. There was as much a need to know the future as there is today, and in order to feed the curious, occult stores and books on the subject have sprung out of every major city. Some of the books are very good, and some of them are pure media hype.

The typical scenario is a visit to the local fortune teller, a young man or woman sit down and have their palms read. This reading of the future takes place in a dimly lit room with a crystal ball sitting before a gnarled old woman. Except for in the movies, this isn't what to expect from your first encounter with a medium. Fortune tellers and seekers in the psychic world look and act pretty much like anyone else. The rumors of Benjamin Franklin and the occult are true- the Discovery Channel did an entire episode on him as a mason, and these clips can be viewed at their website. However, the episode talks about the darker side of occult practices, and does not relate to the earth worshipping practices of most ordinary people involved with this belief system. Metaphysical books can be found in any bookstore, and have their own section. These books teach reverence for the fact that we are all stewards of the earth, geared toward solitary and group practices for celebrations and the power of intent.

You can find out more about earth worship directly by visiting occult stores, and books on the subject can be found online, at your library, or in specific sections of any bookseller. More importantly, you can visit sites and chat rooms where you can learn directly from the followers of earth magic what is superstition and rumor and what is done in actual practice.
