Oriental Medicine: Eastern and Western Medicine Working Together

Today, with healthcare reform and the high cost of traditional Western medicine, Oriental Medicine is seeing a renewal in popularity. It has long been accepted in Western culture that acupuncture therapy can help people lose weight, stop smoking and relieve pain, yet may of the other Ancient and Eastern techniques were left untouched by the mainstream population. As more and more medication and invasive procedures are found to be ineffective or cause potentially serious side effects, the benefits of massage, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Shiatsu and other disciplines like are being sought out.

Today, it is easy to locate a school of Oriental Medicine who teaches acupressure and acupunture among other eastern healing modalities. Only a short time ago, only the largest cities would host more than one, if any, Oriental Medicine school. With the renewal in this field in the West, schools that provide specialty training are springing up frequently.

The best news for someone who wants to try this type of therapy to learn if it can help them with their health issues is that most of the schools have on-site clinical laboratories where students can, with professional supervision, practice their skills at a very low cost to you, the patient. If you want to know more, simply locate a center in your area.
