All Types of Poetry

All types of poetry are popular, but love poems are so very most popular. Since man first learned to put ink to papyrus, there have been special love messages written. Wedding day poems can make a ceremony creative and special. Wedding poetry can be written by the bridal party, the bride and groom or taken from traditional well-loved published works such as Kahil Gibran's, The Prophet.

The seven most popular types of poetry are free verse, haiku, ballad, limerick, acrostic, sonnet and cinquain. You may not be familiar with the cinquain and acrostic. In a cinquain, the first line contains one word, the second line contains two words that describe the first line, the third line contains three words and brings action into the verse, the fourth line conveys feeling with four words and the fifth and final line contains two words that refer to the first line. This may sound complex but it isn't. The acrostic verse is written so that the first letter of each line of the poem spell out a word or words that can be read vertically.

Whatever types of poetry you enjoy, you can find some interesting verses about a wealth of topics. Whether a love poem or a wedding day verse, you can find messages that move and thrill the readers of finely penned verse as you parse through all types of poetry found on the Internet.
